Tips and Techniques Wednesday - Zipper Flower

Hello all!

It's Wednesday and that means I am here with another tip for you!  Today I am gong to demonstrate how to make a zipper flower.  There are a few different kinds of zipper flowers, a rolled zipper flower usually comes to mind.  Today I will share how to make a zipper flower with petals.

First gather your supplies....

you will need a zipper, needle and thread, scissors and a circle of felt.
Start by stitching the end of your zipper to the centre of the felt circle.  Leave your needle and thread handing from the back of the felt circle as youw ill need it again.
Create a loop and stitch through the centre again to keep your first petal secure.  You do not need any more than a stitch or two.
Create a second petal and stitch it to keep it secure as well.
 Repeat for a third petal.
And  a fourth! Now you can tie off the need and thread, and snip it off.
Next you will start rolling the remainder of the zipper from the end towards the centre of the flower.
After rolling part way, put a couple of stitches into the bottom of the roll to hold it secure.
Continue rolling the rest of the way to the centre of the flower.
Now secure this centre 'bud' portion of the flower to the centre of the petals.
 Almost done!
Flip your flower over and trim off any excess felt.

Ta da!   You have a sweet flower embellishment for your next layout!  Next time I think I will try a 5 petal flower, and then maybe a rolled flower.

Note - you can always use hot glue if you are not a needle and thread kind of gal!

Tips and Techniques Wednesday - Tree Embellishment

Hi there,

Today I am sharing a quick and fun little embellishment on the ScrapMuch? blog and thought I'd share it here too!  I thought this tree embellishment would make a nice accent to a card or layout, so here goes.

First, gather your supplies....

You will need a handful of buttons in colours of your choice, a tree die cute, stamp or heck you could even draw one!  I mounted mine onto a scalloped circle as that is how it will sit on my card but you can even add it right onto your project.
Now, wherever you think the leaves should go just add buttons, it's that easy!

And this is my finished card.  I weighed my options repeatedly and then decided to leave my card without a sentiment.  I can always add one when I am ready to give it away.

Thanks for popping in today!

Timmy crochets

Hi all!

My little guy came to me a few days ago and asked if he could crochet a hat for the baby that visits his classroom, under the 'Roots of empathy' program.  His timing was perfect as I happened to have a spare ball of pink yarn, and had been wanting to try making a new little embellishment!

This is my Timmy, working away.
 The crochet face!
 Loving little busy hands!

 It's starting to come together.
 Doing the decorative edging!
Voila!  All done, with the little butterfly I had been wanting to learn to make adorning it.  That is one proud crocheting boy!
Butterfly close up.  You can find the pattern here.

Timmy crocheted about 1/3 of this hat, not bad for almost 9 years old and a boy.  I am so pleased that he wanted to spend some of his spare time created something for someone else.

Our Baby Girl - Let's Get Sketchy - CTMH

Hi all!

There is a surprise challenge going on over at the Let's Get Sketchy blog , here is a look at the sketch ....

And here is my take on it ....

This picture is of our Mollie, an Olde English Bulldogge, taken when we brought her home to join our family.  And oddly, this is the first photo I have scrapped of her.  I have been saving some photos to create a mini album of her, but when I came across this photo I really wanted to make a traditional sized page for it.  The papers are from CTMH.
 Some bling and stick pins.
Oh my, I loved using so much pink!  With all boys it is super fun to go girly sometimes.
More pink!

Tips and Techniques Wednesday - Dutch Fold Card

Hi all,

Happy Hump Day!  Did you get to enjoy some time with your sweetie yesterday?

I thought I would share a fun card style as my tutorial today, I saw this idea on the Split Coast Stampers website.

This is what your finished card will look like, of course you can put any image you wish on yours.

The first step is to create a card base that measures 4 3/16 x 9.  You will notice this is just a smidge narrower that a typical card, but this will allow the second piece of the card base to line up nicely.  Score at 5.5", this will give you a 4 3/16 x 5.5 back and a 4 3/16 x 3.5 front piece.
Next you will need a second piece of card stock measuring 2 x 8.5, and score this at 2 1/8" and 6 3/8".  Adhere this piece to the back of the card at the bottom, so that the two outer pieces wrap around the front.  Round the two bottom corners, if desired.
This is what your card base should look like now.
Now adhere patterned paper to the bottom and top of the card front.
 Decorate and embellish as desired.
Here is a end shot for a different view point for you.
I even added a fun embellishment to the centre, because it looked so pretty there!

Thank you for stopping by my blog today, I really appreciate it when you come by to check on me!

U & Poppa - Let's Get Sketchy - My MInd's Eye,

Hi there!

I wanted to share a layout that I created based on the sketch posted here at Let's Get Sketchy.  They are having a mini challenge until February 25th, why don't you play along for your chance to win a prize!

Here is the sketch ....

And here is my take on it .....

After my mother in law passed away, as we were clearing out her house we found many, many photos.  Lots were of my big boys when they were very young.  You see we were so fortunate that my father and mother in law were our caregivers while my husband and I were at work.  As such, my boys had an amazing and close relationship with their 'Poppa' which was a blessing for us all as he passed away when they were both very young (4 and 6).

Even though I can't really edit these photos, to crop them in a little closer, i wanted to be sure to add them to our family scrapbook to document all the time the boys spent with their Poppa and how they had so much fun in just doing the simplest of things, like going for walks on spring days and stopping for a photograph, courtesy of Grandma.
Even though there was already a little owl printed on this journaling card, I added this little owl button for dimension and just because it is so cute!
I love these canvas buttons, and because they are plain, I can add whatever I like to jazz them up.
I added a second photo to this layout and popped it up for fun.

Thanks for popping by today! I hope you play along with the challenge.
