Girl's Nite - Creative Scrappers - Fancy Pants

Hi there!

There is a new sketch up on the Creative Scrappers blog today, and it is my week to play along!   I love today's sketch, created by Kristine Davidson - the founder of Creative Scrappers.  It is a fun take on the blog header!  This is what I created with it.....

This sketch and this collection seemed like a perfect pairing to create a girly layout of me and my friend, Sue, while we were out enjoying one of our girl's nights.  There is something about putting on your big girl shoes and dancing off the stresses of the month.  And even better when the hubbies are super supportive, and even drop us off and pick us up.

I created lots of die cut layered flowers and added loads of hand stitching.
I used my Mini 8 punch to create the red 'die cut' piece in the background.  I love this sticker that was part of the collection - perfect!
Some red Thickers and red Mr. Huey's are just perfect and such a happy colour.
Some fussy cut flowers from one of the patterns, affixed with brads.
And a pretty die cut doily is sunny yellow.  I switched from my usual brown edge inking to turquoise to add to the fun factor.

Here is a look at the sketch.....

Why don't you pop over to Creative Scrappers and see what the rest of Team A has created.... and stick around to play along, for your chance at winning this month's prize!

Getting more from your embellishments - Boys Rule - Tutorial - Glitz Design

HI there!

I am sharing a tutorial on the Boy's Rule blog today and thought I would share it here, too.  Do you ever have that moment when you only have one particular embellishment and that won't quite do, you wish you had more, or that it was a little bigger - you know what I mean, right?

Well today I am going to share with you what I did when that happened to me recently.

First up, I had this cute little gold Polaroid frame from Glitz Design's 'Your's Truly' collection, it is from the package of 'whatnots' .  I loved it but knew I would not be using it in a traditional Polaroid frame sort of way.   So I cut it in half and used each half as a accent in the following 2 layouts.  That way, I get the colour, dimension and texture of that particular embellishment on two layouts for the price of one package!

Next up, I did a similar thing with this 'Peek a boo" , I love this clear acetate 4 x 6 sheet with 'I love you' written all over it and I know , I will want to use it more than once, so I sliced off a fraction of it and added it to my embellie cluster in the upper corner of this layout... reserving the rest for a future layout.  The bonus is that this particular embellie is a neutral so I can use it with any collection I happen to be working with!

And this last layout, has 2 examples of my 'frugalness'  (yes I know it's not a word! hehe.  This chevron 'peek a boo' is awesome and I wanted to run it behind my photo, but it wasn't quite long enough, so I cut it into 2 pieces and hid the seam behind my photo.  I was also able to cut a quarter of the round 'whatnot' off, that would have been hidden behind my photo and use it in the embellie cluster at the bottom of my layout.  It looks more  cohesive and like I had 2 of them!

Do you have any great ideas for making the most out of your embellies?  I would love you to share them if you do.

Joyful Holiday - Whimsie Doodle

Hi there!

I have a new project up on the Whimsie Doodles blog today.  I chose to play with this adorable Present Lizzie digi, from last month's new releases!  She is super cute and I had so much fun colouring her up!  I managed to create a couple more last minute holiday cards.

I used a fun colour combo, which seems to be my favourite one this year, with the turquoise, pinky-reds and bright greens.
It's a little hard to tell but I added a bit of gold to the ruffle on her dress.

I also played with Winter Lizzie once again.  I just can't resist these little girls.  If you recall, last time I created a wintery birthday card with her.  This time she is all about Christmas!

Again, using my favourite colour combo of the season, Lizzie looks so pretty in green!  This fun die cut tree along with the present sticker helps to set a little scene for Lizzie.  I used some washi tape to create the ruffle along the left hand side of the card.
Can you see the glitter on her hood?

You can find these sweeties and more great digis in the Whimsie Doodles Store!

Thanks for visiting me today!

Holiday Gifts

Hi there!

I thought I'd pop in quick and share these little gifts we are giving out this year.

First up, we are gifting these to our teachers and basketball coaches.  Timmy has 2 coaches and two teachers, and in both groups he has one male and one female.  We wanted to do something crafty, and also something gender neutral.  This is what we came up with.....
Travel mugs with crocheted cozies to keep the coffee hot.  I even added a pocket for us to tuck in a gift card to Tim Horton's.  And if you are like me and only like one brand of sweetener, you can cart your own around in the pocket.

It took no time at all to whip up 4 of these crocheted cozies, Canadian Tire had a great deal on the mugs, but you can find them anywhere (even the grocery store) and grabbing the gift cards is super easy since the hubby is there almost daily!

I am working on 2 more crochet projects, and will share when they are done - hopefully they will be before the holidays!

Next up, banana bread.....

... for some sweet friends and neighbours.

And also, these cute little fuzzy sock gift sets......

.... the adorable digis are from Whimsie Doodles and can be found here.

And lastly, a few gift cards.  This were whipped up last minute (hubby sort of sprang on me that he forgot to get the gifts for his co-workers)  he went out to grab the gift cards and I whipped these up.

Here is a peek at the inside....
You can find the tutorial for these here, this girl is seriously talented so you may want to poke around her blog.

Merry & Bright - Boy's Rule - Glitz Design

Hi all!

There is a new sketch up on the Boy's Rule blog today, you should eally consider playing along!  Here is my take (my apologies for the photo quality - we haven't had sun for days).....

Feeling a little festive, I once again, used this non Christmas kit from Boy's Rule to create a holiday page.  This photo was taken last Christmas, I love the look on my son's face as he opens this framed Disney stock and realizes he now owns a little piece of the magic.
I die cut ornaments out of a few of the patterned papers... I love the wood grained one!  And that over-sized bling makes me happy!
This chevron 'Peek a Boo' is a fabulous sheer piece and the almost tissue 'paper layer' that I used for a photo mat add so much texture.
I created a little journaling bit from the wood grained patterned paper.

And here is the fabulous sketch, created by Jenny Evans.
Now, why don't you pop on over to the  Boy's Rule blog   to see what the rest of the team has created - and don't forget to play along!
