Stitched Titles and Sentiments Tutorial - ScrapMuch?

Hi there!

Happy Wednesday!  I have a new tutorial for you.  A long, long while ago I shared a tutorial on hand stitched titles, suggesting that you stitch over your hand writing to create a title on your layout.  Now, I know that many of us do not like our handwriting, so I have revisited this technique to come up with something that we might like a little more.

I printed out my title/sentiment the size I need for my project.  You can simply use the Word Document program on your computer.  If you are like me, you may need to print out a couple of sizes to ensure you get one that suits your project. Or if you have a Silhouette, you can print from your project design screen... this is really nice as you can get it the exact size you need the first time!

Now, gather up your printed title, the element you are going to be stitching on, a needle and embroidery floss, a piercing tool and mat, and a couple of paper clips.
I know it is a little hard to tell in this photo, but I like to hold my printed text and the paper I am stitching on up to the light so that I can check to make sure I have good alignment.  Clip it into place, so it holds titght while piercing.
I decided to only pierce / stitch along one side of my letters, but you could pierce along both sides for a different look.
Now remove your printed template to reveal your pierced guide.
 And start stitching.
Doesn't it  look great when it is all done?  And it really only took a couple of minutes!
I added my stitched piece to this card as a sentiment.  I think it turned out great!

Make a Splash - Let's Get Sketchy - Fancy Pants

 Hi there!

Happy Monday!  It's the 5th Monday at the month, so that makes it fair game at Let's Get Sketchy this week, instead of a sketch we are having an anything goes challenge!  You are welcome to share any layout you are working on this week!

Here is mine.....

... yup more cruise pictures!  Can you tell I am on a mission to get this album done?
I incorporated a ton of hand-stitching into this layout.
Also some mist spatter and a few sequins (loving them).

For my title I really mixed it up, the 'make a' portion was printed onto the page using a sketch pen,  then I filled in the font with a red Copic. the 'splash' portion was cut out of the base page using the Silhouette, I then backed it with a fun patterned paper. After that I added the yellow stitching and then went for broke and added the waves and water drops stitching.

I used this sketch from Canadian Scrapbooker

Now it's your turn, pop on over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog to see what the rest of the DT created and link up your take on the sketch for your chance at this month's prize!

Dimension Tutorial - Boys Rule

Hi there!

I am sharing this tip on Boys Rule today, so of course I want to share it here too!  I wanted to share an easy and less expensive way to add dimension to your layouts without using stacks and stacks of pop dots.

The idea is to just add the pop dots under the corners of your page elements, it adds just the right amount of dimension and saves a few pop dots too.

Easy right, hopefully it will save you a penny or two as well!

Christmas in July - Whimsie Doodles

Hi there!

I have a card to share with you today using a most adorable Whimsie Doodles image. I couldn't resist jumping on the whole 'Christmas in July' bandwagon  and getting a couple of cards made up!

I had fun with the colour combo taking my cue from the candy striped paper.  I also added a washi tape ruffle.

You can find this cutie and more in the Whimsie Doodles store.

Adding dimension to Stickers Tutorial - ScrapMuch?

Hi there,

I have a new tutorial on the ScrapMuch? blog today, actually it is more of a little tip, but I am sharing just the same!

Have you ever wanted to pop dot a sticker, but were a little concerned that once you inserted your page into an album the adhesive on the sticker would stick to your page and you would lose your dimensional look?  Well grab your baby powder for a quick fix.
Sprinkle the powder onto the back of your sticker, make sure you get good coverage.
 Tap off the excess.
And start adding those pop dots, we all love so much!
See, told yah it was more of a quick and easy tip!

Cave Explorer - Let's Get Sketchy - Fancy Pants

 Hi there!

Happy Monday!  It's my teams turn to create over at Let's Get Sketchy this week, and I am here to share my layout with you!

These photos were taken during a cave exploration tour we took in Jamaica, it was super fun.  The caves were cool, and dark and seemed to go on forever.  Parts of the caves were even used as a night club in the 90's!

As this layout is going into my Cruise album, I pulled out my 'Down by the Shore' stash from Fancy Pants
Usually I ink my pages in a brownish colour, but every one in a while I like to mix it up a bit and use a colour... this time it happens to be a pretty clue.

My Silhouette title... love that machine!

Once again, I had a lot of photos, so I dolled up an inset page for some of my extras.

Here is the sketch, created by Tabitha Triplett....

Now it's your turn, pop on over to the Let's Get Sketchy blog to see what the rest of the 'Team B'  DT created and link up your take on the sketch for your chance at this month's prize!

Simply Sweet - Fancy Pants

Hi there!

Did you hear that Fancy Pants and Gossamer Blue have a combined one month Guest Design Team spot call?  You can find all of the info. here.  I toyed with playing along, I mean it really would be a thrill!  Well, more than a thrill - a dream come true.  But, I have sort of been feeling like, hmm, well I don't know it's hard to describe but basically that I am the only one who likes my designs.  Which I suppose, basically, is not a bad thing as ultimately they are for me, but when you share them with everyone in the whole wide world you kind of hope that they appeal to others as well, do you know what I mean?

Then I discovered this sketch site called Sketchbook 365 and loved the current sketch, so I thought what the heck and combined the challenges to create this.....

Pretty much everything is Fancy Pants, from the Memories Captured line,  with the exception of the Studio Calico wood stars and a couple of Evaliscious flair as I did not have the coordinating FP flair.
I am loving the look of buttons and flair tucked into the layers of the page.
The black alphas are from an older FP collection, the peachy coloured alphas are from Memories Captured.
The suggestion of journaling right in the middle of the page can be a little daunting, but it really looks fab!

Here is the sketch that inspire me .....

Faux Water Coloring with Copics - Designed to Color

Hi there!

Today is my turn to host the Sunday Showcase over at Designed to Color.  I thought I'd share a technique I learned from scrappy friend Joanne, on how to create a faux water coloring look with my Copic markers.  I am sure you could do this with any alcohol base markers though.

Here is a few still shots of the little card that I created....

I love this technique, such a fun way to use alcohol markers!

Beach Days - Fancy Pants

Hi there,

Sharing another just for fun layout.....

everything is Fancy Pants excepts the wooden shell, red Thickers, buttons and floss

I actually pulled out some Thickers, it felt good to use up some of my stash for a change.

I started with this sketch from Fancy Pants as a jumping off point.  It inspired me to get to my craft table!

Beach Day - Fancy Pants

Hi there,

It seems like forever since I have scrapped, I know it has been over a week - that's a long time for me.  But, Wednesday night I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours and created 3 layouts.  I can only share this one right now.

all elements are Fancy Pants except, buttons, stitching and mist

It was too hot and sunny out (not that I am complaining) to get a decent photograph of my layout, so this will have to suffice.

I used this sketch from Sketches in Thyme as a source of inspiration.  I have never played along with this site before and am so glad I did! It was super fun and came together very quickly.
